POSTAL 2 Redux Launches Spring 2027 for PS5, PS VR2, and PC

POSTAL 2 Redux launches in spring 2027 for PS5, PS VR2, PS4, PC, and Quest. Discover the complete visual overhaul, rebuilt systems, and upgraded sandbox gameplay.

More than two decades after it first shocked and entertained audiences with its unapologetic freedom and chaotic gameplay, a legendary sandbox experience is returning. Developers Impact Reality and Running With Scissors have officially announced that POSTAL 2 Redux will launch in spring 2027. The game is set to release across a wide array of modern hardware, including the PlayStation 5 (featuring full PlayStation VR2 support), PlayStation 4, PC via Steam (also with virtual reality support), and Meta Quest. The developers have also confirmed that releases for additional console platforms will follow shortly after the initial launch window.

This highly anticipated rebuild aims to capture the chaotic essence of the original 2003 cult classic while entirely overhauling its technological foundation for a modern gaming audience.

Rebuilding a Cult Classic Sandbox from the Ground Up

At its core, POSTAL 2 Redux is designed to be the ultimate expression of player freedom, staying true to the controversial yet undeniably unique vision of the original release. Jasmine Uniza, the CEO and co-founder of Impact Reality, emphasized the game’s reactive nature in a recent press release. “At its heart, POSTAL 2 Redux is a sandbox in the truest sense: players decide how each day unfolds, playing their way from mild-mannered to mayhem, in a living, reactive world where no two playthroughs are ever the same,” Uniza stated.

A significant highlight for longtime fans is the return of Champ, the POSTAL Dude’s fiercely loyal canine companion. In this redux version, Champ has been significantly upgraded. Players will discover entirely new ways to interact with him, whether that means simply petting him, bringing him along for daily errands, or creatively weaponizing him against the unsuspecting citizens of Paradise.

The journey to bring this remaster to life has been deeply rooted in community passion. Vince Desi, the founder and CEO of Running With Scissors, reflected on the original game’s legacy and its modern revival. “When we made the original POSTAL 2, we set out to build something that didn’t exist anywhere else, a game defined by total player freedom,” Desi explained. “It filled a need, and we blew some minds along the way. More than 25 years later, we wanted to bring modern technology and game systems to that original vision, and the response from the community overwhelmed us. We’ve been hard at work to deliver exactly that, and to bring it to more platforms like PS5, and here we are. We can’t wait for players to get their hands on it.”

The project exists primarily because the community demanded it. After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that hit its funding goal within a single day, the game has been developed in open collaboration with the fanbase. The current build represents a massive joint effort between Impact Reality, co-developers Flat2VR Studios and Team Beef, and original members of the Running With Scissors development team.

Key Features and Modern Enhancements

Instead of a simple resolution bump, POSTAL 2 Redux has been completely remade using the Unity 6 engine. This allows the development team to rebuild every major system for modern hardware, ensuring smooth and scalable performance regardless of the platform.

Players returning to the fictional town of Paradise will immediately notice a complete visual overhaul. The developers have implemented much higher-resolution textures, alongside significantly upgraded lighting, advanced shaders, and improved material rendering to bring the world to life like never before. Furthermore, the notorious loading screens of the 2003 original have been addressed; a brand-new complete level streaming solution ensures that moving through the various districts of Paradise is far smoother and more seamless.

Beyond the visuals, the gameplay mechanics have received a major facelift. The non-player character (NPC) systems have been completely rebuilt. The crowds inhabiting the town are now smarter and far more reactive, dynamically responding to both the player’s actions and the shifting world around them. Combat and physics have also been reforged from scratch, offering a rebalanced, weightier combat feel within a fully reactive, physics-driven environment.

Finally, this release marks a historic milestone for the franchise, as POSTAL 2 Redux will make its official debut on PlayStation consoles. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions will feature modern controller layouts, console-specific optimization, and dedicated VR integration for the PS VR2, promising a fresh and immersive way to experience a week in the life of the POSTAL Dude.
